Spoonflower Design Challenges
Recently I thought I’d “water” my little Spoonflower store a bit and make the effort to work to some of their trend focused “Art challenge” briefs to bring some new designs into my store.
The challenges are now fortnightly so it’s a bit more achievable to tackle them rather than the rushed affair of weekly ones they had before. I designed for three - “Beachy Boho”, “Modern Nautical” and “Hothouse Florals” - As you can see from the above I didn’t stick rigidly to the briefs but used them as a starting point.
I don’t garner much from the voting results (I’ve learned not to take my generally poor results too personally! lol) but it’s always nice if you make it into the first 100 which I managed to do with the first top left image for “Beachy Boho” which incidentally was the design I spent least time on!
I generally work fully in photoshop for my pattern design work and recently discovered the joy of pattern preview in the latest versions which has helped speed up my design process! I used to work up individual icons first then build the pattern but I now prefer to sketch the images and pattern out, test colours, then complete fully.
